🟡 Muslim-Friendly What does this label mean?
Last verified: July 5, 2026
“Ayam” means chicken in Indonesian and Malay — and that’s the whole story of this beloved Muslim-owned ramen shop near Asakusa: rich chicken-broth ramen, no pork anywhere in the kitchen, no alcohol served. It has been a fixture of Tokyo’s Muslim food scene for years, first in Okachimachi and since 2020 at its current Moto-Asakusa location.
What We Verified
- Chicken-broth only, no pork, no alcohol served — confirmed across Halal Gourmet Japan’s listing (halal icons for meat, seasonings, and no-alcohol) and an English feature article. Checked July 5, 2026.
- Muslim-owned, prayer-conscious — a feature article describes a prayer space with a low faucet for wudu; note Halal Gourmet Japan’s icon for prayer space shows off, so we treat this as needing on-site confirmation.
- Certification claim — the shop is described as certified by Japan Halal Foundation, but we could not verify this on a certifier’s official list, so per our rules the label stays Muslim-Friendly.
What We Could Not Confirm
- Dinner closing time — sources disagree (22:00 vs 23:00). Go early rather than late.
- Prayer space availability (sources conflict — ask at the counter).
- Certification body verification on an official list.
- Mirin / seasoning alcohol in sauces.
What to Order
The rich chicken shio ramen (noko tori soba) is the signature. The Jakarta maze-men (brothless mixed noodles) nods to the owner’s roots, and this branch has exclusive fried sides — gyoza, spring rolls, and samosas.
