Chibo Diversity Dotonbori (Osaka): Okonomiyaki for Muslim & Vegan Travelers

🟡 Muslim-Friendly What does this label mean?
Last verified: July 5, 2026

Okonomiyaki — Osaka’s iconic savory pancake — is normally off-limits for Muslim and vegan travelers (pork belly, bonito flakes, lard on the griddle). Chibo, one of Osaka’s most famous okonomiyaki chains, built this dedicated “Diversity” branch in its own Dotonbori building to fix exactly that: dedicated griddles, halal-certified meat, and a fully plant-based vegan okonomiyaki. Note: it runs as a reservation-based course restaurant (¥5,000–10,000), not a casual walk-in spot.

What We Verified

  • Dedicated griddles & halal-certified meat — media coverage in Halal Media Japan describes separate teppan griddles, Muslim-friendly seasonings, and no risk of pork/alcohol contamination. Checked July 5, 2026.
  • Vegan okonomiyaki — a 2023 press release and Vegewel coverage confirm a plant-based okonomiyaki designed to cover vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, and Buddhist (five-pungent-root-free) needs.
  • Reopened 2023 — after a pandemic pause, Chibo’s own press release confirms the branch reopened July 3, 2023, initially as a reservation-only course format (¥5,000–10,000).
  • Location — 7F of the Chibo Dotonbori Building, about 4 min from Namba / Nippombashi stations.

What We Could Not Confirm

  • Whether the reservation-only course format (vs. à la carte) still applies in 2026 — book ahead and confirm.
  • The name of the halal certification body for the meat.
  • Current single-item menu and prices.
  • Regular closing days.
  • Mirin / seasoning alcohol details.

What to Order

The omakase course (¥5,000–10,000) built around your dietary needs — tell them your requirements when you book. The vegan okonomiyaki is the signature creation.
