Read the verification details

Vegan ramen, vegan gyoza, even vegan sushi — directly at exit 17 of Sakaisuji-Hommachi Station, with gluten-free noodles on request and English-speaking staff. One honest clarification up front: some articles call Osaka Engine a fully vegan restaurant, but HappyCow lists it as serving meat with vegan options. We label conservatively — treat it as a ramen shop with a strong dedicated vegan menu, and confirm dishes when ordering.

What We Verified

  • Dedicated vegan menu — vegan ramen (miso, black-garlic miso, spicy veggie), hand-made vegan gyoza, vegan sushi, and sweet-potato ice cream, per HappyCow’s detailed listing. Checked July 5, 2026.
  • Gluten-free noodles on request — noted consistently across sources.
  • Why Vegan Options, not Vegan — HappyCow (our primary source here) states “serves meat, vegan options available,” contradicting Japanese articles that describe it as fully vegan. When sources conflict, we use the more cautious label.
  • Location & hours — Sakaisuji-Hommachi Sta. exit 17, 13:00–22:00 daily.

What We Could Not Confirm

  • Whether the restaurant is in fact fully vegan (sources conflict — see above) and whether vegan dishes are cooked on separate equipment.
  • Closing days.
  • Current phone number (one listed number appears disconnected; book online).
  • Mirin / seasoning alcohol.

What to Order

The black-garlic miso vegan ramen and the vegan sushi plate — an unusual combo under one roof. Budget around ¥3,000.

Why the Label Says Vegan Options

Osaka Engine is the listing that most clearly shows how sources disagree, and what our labeling policy does about it. Multiple Japanese-language articles describe the shop as a fully vegan restaurant. HappyCow — which is the most detailed English-language source about the shop — describes it as “serves meat, vegan options available.” We can’t independently reconcile these, and when sources conflict, our rule is to use the more conservative label. That’s not a comment on the shop’s quality — Osaka Engine’s vegan bowls (particularly the black-garlic miso ramen) are well-reviewed, and the shop’s willingness to offer both gluten-free noodles and vegan sushi on the same menu is unusual — but it is a comment on our epistemic honesty. If a strict vegan reader is going to visit, we’d rather they arrive with the accurate expectation that this is a ramen shop with strong vegan capability, not a dedicated vegan restaurant.
