Rota Cafe’s official line covers everything a plant-based traveler needs to hear: no animal ingredients, no white sugar, no dairy — at all. The kitchen leans on house-fermented seasonings (shio-koji, amazake dressing, white miso) to build proper Japanese set meals around pesticide-free brown rice. Note the address: the shop has moved from Daimyo to Hirao, near Yakuin — older articles show the old location.
What We Verified
- “No animal ingredients, white sugar, or dairy whatsoever” — stated on the shop’s official site, which we located and read directly (older guides list no official site — it exists now). Checked July 9, 2026.
- Current location: Hirao — 1-3-25 Hirao, ~5 min from Yakuin Sta.; the site’s shop-name wording still says “Daimyo honten” but the listed address is the new one.
- Menu & prices confirmed on the official site — special plate ¥1,870, lentil spice curry ¥1,760, soy karaage bowl ¥1,650, tofu cheesecake ¥935.
- Hours — 11:00–18:00 (L.O. 17:00), closed Sundays & holidays.
What We Could Not Confirm
- Mirin / alcohol-based seasonings (fermented seasonings are house-made; alcohol content unstated).
- Reservation policy.
- Why the “Daimyo honten” name remains on the site after the move.
What to Order
The Rota special plate (¥1,870) — pesticide-free brown rice, one main, three sides — with the tofu cheesecake (¥935) to finish.

The Move That Isn’t Marketed
A small piece of Rota Cafe’s story that isn’t obvious from the shop’s own website: it has moved. The Daimyo location that many English-language guides still list is no longer operating; the current shop is in Hirao, five minutes from Yakuin Station, in a smaller and quieter building. Interestingly, the shop’s own site continues to display “Daimyo main branch” in its shop name despite listing the Hirao address — a small inconsistency that has confused travelers arriving with old maps. What matters for the visit is that the current Hirao operation is real, the fully-vegan-plus-no-white-sugar-plus-no-dairy commitment is stated clearly, and the shop’s house-fermented seasonings (shio-koji, amazake dressing, white miso) are what makes the food distinctive. If you found an older article recommending the Daimyo location, follow the newer address in our listing, not the older one.
