Osu — Nagoya’s buzzing shopping arcade — is made for eating while you walk, and Mega Kebab is its halal-friendly anchor. The chain states that all ingredients are halal, with no alcohol, no pork, and no non-halal animal products, and that most of the owners and staff are Muslim. Its central kitchen has held certification from the Kyoto Halal Council since 2017 — the label nuance for this specific branch is explained below.
What We Verified
- All-halal ingredients, Muslim-owned — stated on the chain’s official site: no alcohol, no pork, no non-halal animal derivatives; most owners and staff are Muslim. Checked July 5, 2026.
- Central kitchen certified — the official site states the central kitchen that produces the kebab meat for all branches has been certified by the Kyoto Halal Council since June 2017.
- Why Muslim-Friendly, not Certified Halal? On the council’s official client page we found “Mega Kebab (Nagoya Centrair branch)” — the airport branch — but the Osu branches are not individually listed. The Osu shops almost certainly serve the same certified-kitchen kebab, but we label by what we can verify per branch. (Bonus fact: that means there’s verified halal kebab inside Chubu Centrair Airport.)
- Hours (Osu #1) — weekdays & holidays 10:30–21:00, weekends 10:00–22:00, per the official shop list.
What We Could Not Confirm
- Whether the Osu branch itself falls within the certification scope (see above).
- Menu prices (not published online).
- Closing days.
- Which social accounts are chain-wide vs. branch-specific.
What to Order
The chicken pita sandwich or roll kebab, eaten walking down the arcade, with Turkish ice cream (dondurma) from the same counter for dessert.

The Central-Kitchen Certification, Explained
Mega Kebab’s certification arrangement is one of the more interesting operational stories on the site. The Kyoto Halal Council has certified the group’s central kitchen — the single facility that produces the kebab meat for every Mega Kebab location across Japan — but not the individual outlet shops that assemble and serve the kebabs. That distinction is real: the meat itself, and the meat’s supply chain, is verified at the source, but each outlet operates its own front-of-house without a per-shop audit. In the group’s case, we found only the airport branch (Nagoya Centrair) listed on the Council’s own registry; the Osu branches, including the one this listing profiles, are not individually listed. Both branches almost certainly serve the same central-kitchen meat. But our labeling policy responds to what we can verify at the branch level, and until we can verify the Osu shop as an outlet, the label stays at Muslim-Friendly. That’s a distinction some readers will find pedantic; it’s a distinction other readers will find valuable, and this listing is written for the second group.
